| NLU (National Law University) JODHPUR - UNIVERSITY PROFILE The National Law University, established by National Law
University Jodhpur, Act, 1999 (Act No. 22 of 1999), passed by the State of
Rajasthan, is the fifth National University for Legal Education in the
country following the institutions at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Bhopal and Calcutta.
Keeping in mind the urgent need of multidisciplinary legal knowledge and
application of the law in the context this University has designed
multidisciplinary undergraduate programs. The Bar Council of India has already
indicated in their standard syllabus practice that undergraduate law program
must contain seven courses on social sciences, eleven compulsory legal subjects,
four clinical courses, and at least five optional courses. Every student of all
streams has to study these twenty-seven courses. It may be noted that NLU is one of the few law colleges in India which
offers this varied combination of subjects. There shall be three streams of
study, namely, Arts, Science and Management Studies, which shall be integrated
with legal courses leading respectively to the award of B.A., LL.B., (Hons.),
B.Sc., LL.B., (Hons.) and B.B.A., LL.B., (Hons.) over a period of five years.
There shall be no conferment of intermediate degrees. The University takes these
subjects as the base and designs courses suitable for three streams as at
present. Students preferring arts stream have to take additional nine courses in
social sciences. Students preferring science stream shall take nine science
courses and students preferring management studies shall take nine courses on
management sciences. This will determine the first component of the integrated
degree B.A. or B.Sc. or B.B.A. In five years divided in ten semesters, students
have to undergo a serious study and research on 65 courses to take either B.A.,
LL.B. (Hons.); B.Sc. LL.B. (Hons.) or B.B.A., LL.B. (Hons), as the case may
be. The Admission formalities are usually completed by end of June and classes begin by early July each year. Undergraduate Degree
Programme : They offer different combinations allowing students to pursue
science and management at the undergraduate level. They offer a variety of
streams including 5-year integrated B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) or B.Sc. LL.B. (Hons.)
or B.B.A., LL.B. (Hons) Degree Programme. Some new courses have
been added as well : B.Sc.(Hons. in Environmental Science) LL..B.(Hons.) Eligibility : The student should have completed 10+2 secondary school examination or its equivalent with not less than 50% marks. All Students taking qualifying examination in March/April of the year of the NET are also eligible to apply. The student should be below 20 years of age as on July 01 of the year in which he is seeking admission( the age is relaxed for SC/STs).
