The W.B. National University of Juridical Studies (NUJS) Kolkata-  UNIVERSITY PROFILE


NUJS is a University exclusively for legal studies and research established under an Act of the West Bengal Legislature (Act IX of 1999) in Kolkata. NUJS started its journey in 1999 under
Dr. N.R. Madhava Menon (former Director of NLSIU Bangalore). The University offers  undergraduate and postgraduate courses in law and related subjects. Since science and technology are the keys for future development, both at the national and international level, NUJS has taken upon itself the task of relating legal knowledge and processes to the demands of scientific and technological progress. The University offers a five-year Integrated B.A.,LL.B.(Hons.) and B.Sc. LL.B. (Hons.) degree. 

From 2008, NUJS along with 6 other top law schools will be conducting a common law admission test.

Undergraduate Degree Programme : 5-year integrated B.A./ Bsc. LLB (Hons.) Degree Programme

Eligibility : Candidates shall be permitted to take the NAT in the same year in which they will be appearing for their (10+2) Exam; but their admission to the course shall be subjected to the fulfillment of the following conditions. He/she must have:

a) Passed (excepting compartmental) the Higher Secondary or equivalent Examination (10+2) securing in the aggregate not less than 50 % of the total marks in all the core subjects and English language put together, and secured a minimum of 35 % in each subject.

Candidates appearing for their 10+2 board examination in 2005 may also apply. Their subsequent admission will however be provisional, subject to their securing the above criteria at least one month before the commencement of the LLB. 1st Semester Examination.

b) Not completed 21 years of age as on December 31st of the year of admission. For SC/ST candidates, the age limit is be 22 years.

c) Proficiency in English language and in operating computers. Students not trained in the use of computers are advised to acquire the skill in the summer vacation, prior to their admission in the University in June.

Candidates appearing for their 10+2 board examination in 2005 may also apply. Their subsequent admission will however be provisional, subject to their securing the above criteria at least one month before the commencement of the LLB. 1st Semester Examination.
 

Intake and Reservation: The number of seats available is 120, out of which 21 seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe students, 2 seats for Physically Handicapped, selection on the basis of merit from the National Admission Test (NAT). In addition there will be not more than 25 vacancies for Foreign / Non-Resident India (NRI) / Sponsored candidates.

Foreign Nationals / NRI / Sponsored Seats : Foreign Nationals seeking admission should satisfy the prescribed Academic criteria given above. A review shall also be made of the candidate's academic and co-curricular accomplishments by the Admission Committee. Preference would be given to candidates from developing countries. They shall be exempted from taking the NAT and the rule concerning the age limit shall not apply in their case. The candidate should have studied English language as one of the compulsory subjects in 10+2 or any other equivalent Higher Secondary School Examination. In appropriate cases, the Admission Committee may conduct a test for determining the candidate's competency in English, which is a major factor in deciding eligibility for admission. Students seeking admission against the NRI / Sponsored seats should satisfy the minimum academic criteria mentioned above. They will be offered seats on a first-cum-first-serve basis.
