1.INTRODUCTION
Christ College of
Law, Bangalore is a part of Christ College, Bangalore which was founded
and is administered by Carmelites of Mary Immaculate ("CMI"). CMI, the
first indigenous religious congregation of India with a membership of
2000, renders its service to the humanity in educational, social, health
care and other activities aiming at the integral development of the
society. The parent college, a premier educational institution, is an
academic fraternity of individuals dedicated to the motto of excellence
and service and already has a proven history of success in the field of
education. Though a minority institution, Christ College has a secular
outlook.
Christ College is affiliated to Bangalore University, one
of the largest State Universities in India. Within three decades, Christ
College has become the most preferred educational institution in the
city of Bangalore. Christ College has the rare distinction to of being
the first college in Karnataka to be accredited by the National
Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), UGC for quality education.
Christ College of Law is also recognized by the Bar Council of India.
2.ADMISSION
Admission to the First Year of the 5-year
Programme is made on the basis of an interview, which is usually held in
May-June.
Eligibility: Students who have passed their 10+2 School
Examination or equivalent with not less than 45% marks in the final
examination.
Age Limit: Below 25 years as on 1st July, 2007.
Admission Procedure: Applications are to be collected from the

Applicants are allotted
an interview schedule when collecting the application. Applicants who
down load the application forms are to call the college office and
schedule an interview.
Selection :
Selection is based on the
applicant's performance at the abovementioned pre- admission
qualifying admission-qualifying interview held at Christ College campus
on the date notified to the candidate. The interview panel reserves the
right to grant admission.
3.COURSE STRUCTURE AND FACULTY
The
curriculum for the course is a mix of social science subjects and legal
subjects. In the first two years, students are taught History, Political
Science, Sociology and Economics along with the value added subjects,
such as like Legal Research Skills and Introduction to International
Legal Systems and Introduction to Standard Legal Subjects. After that,
it is mainly legal subjects that constitute the curriculum.
The
current faculty at Christ College of Law are from the best international
and national universities like the London School of Economics ("LSE"),
Delhi University ("DU") and Jawarharlal Nehru University ("JNU"). The
college also in the process of conceptualizing and constituting an
advisory board consisting of eminent personalities in the legal
fraternity to advice and fine- tune the curriculum to the needs of the
industry. Christ College's reputation as a provider of quality education
itself attracts faculty from all over India and outside
India.
4.EXTRA CURRICULARS AND CO- CURRICULARS
Moot Courts,
Client Counselling and Other Activities,Students of Christ College of
Law will be participating at all national and international moot court
and client counselling competitions. The current faculty has rich
experience both in terms of participating in National and International
Moot Court Competitions, training students to compete at these events
and also judging international events.
Apart from Moot Courts and
Client Counselling events, the college will be inviting eminent persons
from various disciplines to address the students. The speech- writer to
the Canadian Prime Minister has agreed to address the first batch of
students of Christ College of Law and give an insight into the working
of the Prime Minister's office and speech writing for the Prime
Minister. The college expects that these events will motivate those
students intending to pursue careers which that are considered as
unconventional and challenging careers.
Associations and College
Fest
Christ College has a number of associations which that cater to
the varied interests of the student community. Apart from the college
fest, various departments at Christ College conduct their own collegiate
and inter- collegiate fest. Christ College of Law will be conceptualizing its own inter- collegiate law fest and students are
expected to contribute in this regard.
Sports and Games
Sports and
games facilities is are provided on campus to in order to attain
physical growth and nurture sportsman spirit among students. The college
has separate courts for most major games like basketball, football,
volley ball and hockey. Intra-college and inter-college matches and
sports day give the students ample opportunity to develop their talents
and skills.
5.INFRASTRUCTURE
Campus
The Bangalore Urban Art
Commission has selected the college was selected for the Best Campus
Award by the Bangalore Urban Art Commission for four consecutive years,1996 through 2000. Well- maintained gardens and buildings,
air-conditioned Seminar Halls, Panel Room, Conference Hall, Assembly
Hall, Terrace Garden, Auditorium, Health Club, Kiosk and all the
requirements of an institute of higher learning are the unique features
of our college.
Library
Christ College library offers students an
excellent selection of books and magazines on all subjects. The back
issues of the leading management journals, Indian as well as
international, and an EBSCO database consisting of 110 Journals and a
monthly online commentary on Indian Economy through the Centre for
Monitoring Indian Economy, are also available. Apart from this, all the
books prescribed by the University for the LLB programme are also
available. The general library works from 9 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. Along
with 62,000 books and 173 journals and periodicals, there is a good
collection of audio and videotapes for use of faculty and students. The
library information is already computerized, which facilitates the use
of the library with regard to the availability of books and articles.
The library provides photocopying facilities to the faculty and
students.
Computer Labs
All administrative works of the college are computerized. The four
computer labs are equipped with the latest
Intel microprocessor- based computers. The lab has 130 Pentium IV based
nodes each with 512 MB RAM, 40 GB local hard disk, SVGA colour monitors
connected to three Windows 2000 Servers (Pentium-IV, 512 MB RAM, 40GB
HDD) and two LINUX Servers. Laser Printers, Inkjet Printers, Digitizer,
LP 735 Data Projector, Scanner, Dot Matrix Printers and other
peripherals are connected to the network.
Internet Lab
To integrate Information System Technology into the present curriculum, the
college is one of the first educational institutions to be able to boast
of its internet connectivity through 1024 KBS Primus and Cisco
Router with 1MBPS Internet leased line connecting its students to the
world and beyond. The faculty and the students are encouraged and
allowed to surf the net free of cost. All the departments are connected
through the internet , making way for easier access to
information.
Canteen and Kiosk
The college provides a healthy
environment in the cafeteria and makes sure that quality food is served
at reasonable price. The kiosk helps the students refresh themselves
with snacks while running between lectures.
Health Club
Christ
College recently opened a Multi Gym and Fitness Centre for both students
and faculty. The well- stocked gym consists of Multi Gym, Manual Walker,
ExcerCycle and Weights. The gym also has an instructor who is an aerobic
and martial art expert
6. RECRUITMENT
Christ College
already has a proven track for campus recruitment. Christites have been
recruited on campus by companies like 3M, ABN Amro, Accenture, Dell
Computers, Fedex US, Reliance Infocom, Citi Bank, Dubai, Citi
Financials, Xerox Co, to name a few. Christ Christ College of Law will be
using this existing relationship with the corporate world to ensure that all
its students are recruited on campus.
7.HOSTEL
Christ College
does not provide on- campus hostel facility. However, the majority of
among the student community are not locals of Karnataka. They do not
find it difficult to find accommodation in the vicinity of the college.
Hostels for girls and boys, managed by missionaries as well as private
individuals, providing an conducive atmosphere conducive for learning
are plenty.
